Gokulam Kerala FC, the two-time I-league champion, has announced the signing of Sergio Llamas, a highly talented 31-year-old Spanish midfielder who also excels as an attacking midfielder. Sergio joins the Malabarians from Guabira, a club in Bolivia’s first division, bringing him a wealth of experience and a proven track record.
Sergio Llamas has had an impressive football career, having played in Spain’s first division, showcasing his skills on one of the most competitive stages in the world. He spent his formative years with Alaves before getting promoted to the senior team. His exceptional performance with Deportivo Alavés led to winning the Spanish 2nd Tier Championship, a testament to his prowess and dedication on the field. He scored three goals and provided 5 assists in a 42-match stint with Alaves.
He then switched his allegiance to Real Union where he played 73 matches, scoring on 13 occasions and providing 5 assists. Rovaniemen Palloseura (RoPS), Finland was his next destination where he spent a season before making a return to home. Throughout his career, Sergio has made significant contributions in various competitions, including LaLiga2, Primera Federación – Gr. I, and Segunda División B. His remarkable statistics of 18 goals and 12 assists underscore his ability to score and create opportunities, making him a versatile and valuable addition to our team.
“We are delighted to have Sergio Llamas join our squad,” said VC Praveen, President of GKFC. “His experience and skill set will undoubtedly strengthen our midfield and enhance our attacking options. We are excited to see the impact he will make this season.“
Sergio Llamas expressed his enthusiasm for joining GKFC: “I am honored to become part of this fantastic club. I look forward to contributing to the team’s success and achieving great things together. The passion and support of the fans here are incredible, and I can’t wait to play in front of them.“
As Mohammedan SC and Punjab FC have been promoted to the Indian Super League, Gokulam Kerala, and Sreenidi Deccan FC appear to be the strongest teams on paper this season. The Malabarians are desperate for the title after finishing third in the past two seasons. Despite investing heavily in players like Alexis Sanchez, Edu Bedia, and Nili Perdomo, Gokulam Kerala couldn’t win the clutch matches and was pushed behind by Mohammedan SC and Sreenidi Deccan. The management is attempting to build a new team after discontinuing the contract of the former foreigners.
